CRONACA DELLA GIORNATA DI MERCOLEDÌ 7 LUGLIO

Il nostro Capitolo custodiale, nella sua terza giornata di lavori si è aperto, come di consueto, con la Celebrazione Eucaristica, presieduta stamane da p. Noel Muscat, il quale, sapientemente, commentando la pagina evangelica matteana, ha ricordato come il brano odierno (Mt. 10, 1-7), sia tratto dal medesimo capitolo, ascoltato da San Francesco in quel lontano 24 febbraio 1209, in occasione della festa di san Mattia, così come ci racconta il Celano nella sua Vita Prima e rappresenti il momento iniziale della missione dei Dodici e, quindi, nell’ispirazione di Francesco, dell’Ordine. E’ un brano, questo che ci illumina e ci guida nello svolgimento della nostra missione in universo mundo, siamo qui, infatti, in Terra Santa per dare un contributo alla Chiesa universale. Poi, continuando nella sua meditazione, p. Muscat ha ricordato quanto grande, di fronte ai giovani frati dell’Ordine, sia la responsabilità dei sacerdoti, chiamati ad offrire un modello di coerenza di vita, avendo il coraggio, anche, di assumere scelte profetiche e, a volte, dolorose, in quanto, soltanto scevri dai condizionamenti, possiamo vivere il dono della Vivendi forma, che il nostro padre Francesco ci ha consegnato. I lavori, che hanno impegnato i Capitolari per l’intera mattinata, sono continuati nel pomeriggio con le attività di gruppo, inaugurate dalla preghiera tratta dall’Ufficio della Passione del Signore. I Capitolari, poi, si sono divisi in tre differenti gruppi di lavoro, aventi, ognuno, differenti aree tematiche da trattare e che saranno, in seguito, discusse collegialmente. Il primo gruppo, denominato San Bonaventura, ha curato l’ambito dell’Evangelizzazione e dei Luoghi Santi. Il secondo, Sant’Antonio, si è occupato dell’Instrumentum Laboris, con particolare attenzione alla valutazione della qualità della vita francescana, i consigli evangelici, la fraternità, lo spirito di orazione e devozione. Infine, il terzo gruppo, Santa Chiara, copre l’aria tematica afferente alla formazione, la fraternità e la qualità di vita francescana, ma nella specificità delle varie case, comunità ed  eventuali ridisegnazioni. Al termine della giornata il Vespro, celebrato nella chiesa di San Salvatore e presieduto da p. Carlo Cecchitelli, già Custode di Terra Santa, ha concluso questa intensa giornata di lavori, mentre la luce del crepuscolo dorava le antiche tele fiorentine degli altari ottocenteschi.

Report of the fourth day of the Chapter: Wednesday 7^th of July

The third working day of our Custody Chapter opened with the customary Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Noel Muscat who preached on the Gospel reading of Mt. 10,1-7.  Thomas of Celano in his work “First Life”, tells the story of  how St. Francis, on hearing this very passage about the mission of the Twelve (on the 24^th of February 1209, the Feast of St. Matthias) got the inspiration to begin the Order. This passage illuminates and guides us in our mission  in universo mundo, as our mission here in the Holy Land is a contribution to the universal Church. Continuing his meditation, Fr. Muscat pointed out how great a responsibility the priests of the Order have towards the young friars. Priests must be models in the coherence of their lives and have the courage to make prophetic and sometimes even painful choices, so that free from every type of external influence, we (as an Order) can live the gift of Vivendi Forma, that our father Francis handed down to us.

The afternoon activity of the Chapter began with a prayer taken from the Office of the Lord's Passion and continued the work that was accomplished in the morning in groups. The Chapter Fathers were then divided  into three working groups, each one having a different theme to examine that later will be presented before the whole group. The first group named St. Bonaventure, had the task of  reviewing the sector with responsibility for Evangelization and for the Holy Places. The second group named St. Anthony, deliberated on the document  Instrumentum Laboris, giving particular attention to assessing the quality of  Franciscan life, evangelical counsels, brotherhood and the spirit of prayer and devotion. Finally, the third group, named St. Clare, was assigned the sector of  formation, brotherhood and the quality of Franciscan life, specifically relating to each house, community and possible future renominations. At the end of this engaging day of activity, Fr. Carlo Cecchitelli, a former Custos of the Holy Land,  led the Vespers in the church of St. Saviors as the twilight glow gilded the ancient Florentine paintings that hang on the nineteenth-century altars.
