Anche quest’oggi la Celebrazione Eucaristica ha segnato l’inizio della giornata, che si è rivelata particolarmente densa di impegni, sia sotto il profilo dei lavori, sia dal punto di vista liturgico. Fra Abdel Masih Fayez Fahim, il quale ha presieduto l’Eucaristia, ha ricordato nella sua omelia quanto sia importante, per i frati di Terra Santa, tener presente la propria identità missionaria. Giustamente, infatti, questa terra, santificata dai passi del Salvatore, è denominata, la perla delle missioni francescane. Traendo spunto dal brano evangelico, il Celebrante ha invitato i presenti a pregare, costantemente, lo Spirito Santo, la cui Grazia ha consentito ai Dodici di convertire interi popoli. Successivamente, i capitolari si sono riuniti per poter condividere i frutti delle riflessioni maturate durante i lavori di gruppo ed afferenti alle relazioni capitolari presentate nei giorni passati. Infine, è stato intrapreso il delicato studio degli Statuti della nuova Custodia dipendente, che coprirà le aree geografiche di Siria, Libano e Giordania, argomento questo, che tocca il cuore di tutti i frati della Custodia di Terra Santa. Nel pomeriggio, unitamente alle numerose comunità religiose di Gerusalemme, all’interno del S. Cenacolo, il P. Custode, Guardiano del Monte Sion, ha guidato una preghiera, vissuta con profonda intensità e partecipazione. In questo luogo, infatti, dopo soli sedici anni dal loro arrivo, nel 1335 i Francescani di T.S. fondarono la loro Casa madre, fino all’annus horribilis del 1551, quando ne furono definitivamente espulsi, invocandone, però, fino ad oggi, il ritorno. Racconta la Cronaca di Ludolfo di Suchem, del 1350, “In questo convento ora vivono i Frati Minori che ai miei tempi dalla regina Sancia, consorte del re Roberto, ricevettero le cose necessarie per vivere e qui celebrano pubblicamente e devotamente il culto divino, ma non è consentito loro di predicare in pubblico ai Saraceni. Questi medesimi Frati furono uomini coraggiosissimi. I mercanti pellegrini ed anche i Saraceni li lodavano molto perché facevano a tutti molto bene”. Qui, i Frati, riunitisi in preghiera, hanno trovato un particolare impulso spirituale, nel luogo in cui Gesù celebrò la Cena pasquale, istituendo il memoriale perpetuo della sua morte e resurrezione, dove il Risorto apparve la sera di Pasqua ed effuse lo Spirito Santo per il perdono dei peccati, qui, dove si riuniva la prima comunità cristiana con Maria, madre di Gesù e dove, dopo l’Ascensione, Maria visse fino al suo beato transito. 
Report of the fourth day of the Chapter: Thursday 8th of July
Today’s Eucharistic celebration marked the beginning of an intense day of both work and liturgical moments. Fr. Abdel Masih Fayez Fahim presided the Mass and spoke about how important it is for the friars in the Holy Land to be aware of their missionary identity. This land that was sanctified by the Savior’s footsteps, is appropriately named the pearl of the missions for the Franciscans. The celebrant also commented on the Gospel passage and invited the assembly to constantly pray for the Holy Spirit, who gave the Twelve apostles the grace of converting entire peoples.
The Chapter Fathers then met together to share about the fruit of the group work reflections and the various reports of the past few days. This was followed by the delicate study of the Statues of the new dependent Custody. This is the document that deals with the geographical areas of Syria, Lebanon and Jordan and is an issue that touches the hearts of all friars of the Custody of the Holy Land.
In the afternoon, joined by members of the numerous religious communities present in Jerusalem, Father Custos, Guardian of Mount Zion, led an intense and participative prayer in the Cenacle (Upper Room). This is the place where the Mother House of the Franciscans of the Holy Land was founded in 1335, only sixteen years after their arrival. Since the annus horribilis of 1551, that saw their definitive expulsion, the desire and request to return has never ceased. The Chronicles of Ludolfo of Sudheim tells of how “In this convent, convent of Sion, the poor brethren –the Friars Minor- are living. During my visit to the country in 1334, Queen Sancia, wife of King Robert provided everything that was needed by the convent. The friars were holding Mass all the time publicly and with extreme piety. They buried their dead without paying any tax to the rulers. These monks were strong and capable men. They are praised by the merchants and the Muslims on equal footing for the good they do”. In this place, where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper and instituted the perpetual memorial of his death and resurrection, where the Risen One appeared on Easter evening, where the Holy Spirit was sent for the forgiveness of sins, where the first Christian community gathered together with Mary Jesus’ mother and where she lived until her blessed transit, today, the friars came together to be united in prayer and were spiritually renewed.
