La quinta giornata dei lavori del Capitolo, ha avuto come primo appuntamento consueto ed improrogabile, la celebrazione della S. Messa. Quest’oggi la lettura tratta dal Libro del profeta Osea ci invita alla conversione del cuore fondata sulla fede, che solo in Dio trova le certezze e gli appoggi più incrollabili; solo Lui sa amare di vero cuore e rimane giovane, fedele e ristoratore come un cipresso sempreverde. I Capitolari, poi, hanno intrapreso i lavori sulle note del canto tratto dalla preghiera Absorbeat tanto diffusa durante il Medio Evo e che, probabilmente, lo stesso San Francesco avrà pregato. I lavori sono durati tutta la mattinata e poi, nel primo pomeriggio tutti hanno preso parte alla Via Crucis, che si snoda lungo le antiche strade della città antica e rappresenta un’occasione di preghiera irrinunciabile, per tutti coloro che vivono o hanno la fortuna di trovarsi a Gerusalemme. Dopo che l’emoziiione della preghiera sul Calvario, ai piedi della croce e dinanzi alla Tomba vuota nella rotonda dell’Anastasis, si è sciolta nel canto del Regina coeli, tutti i Capitolari sono risolutamente tornati al convento di San Salvatore per l’ultima sessione di lavori della giornata, al termine della quale tutti si sono stretti ai piedi del imponente Gesù crocifisso, che soltanto da pochi giorni mostra tutta la sua bellezza, troneggiando sull’altare maggiore, su cui è stato collocato e che sembra parlarci dell’amore eterno che lo ha conficcato a quel legno.

Report of the sixth day of the Chapter: Friday 9th of July
The fifth day of work for the Chapter Fathers began with the customary and essential engagement of the celebration the Eucharist. In today’s reading from the prophet Hosea, we are called to have faith and to convert our hearts. Our faith comes from God alone, in whom we find certainty and steadfast support. He alone knows how to love with all His heart and He alone remains young, faithful and refreshing as an evergreen cypress.
The Chapter activity was introduced by the singing of the prayer Absorbeat. This was a common prayer during the Middle Ages and most probably was prayed also by St. Francis.
The activity, that took up the entire morning, was momentarily adjourned as the Chapter Fathers left the Curia and took part in the Friday afternoon Via Crucis. For those who are blessed to live in Jerusalem or who are passing by, this special opportunity to pray along the ancient streets of Jerusalem cannot be ignored. The final moving moments of prayer, at the foot of the Calvary Cross and before the empty tomb of Christ, were concluded with the chanting of the Regina Coeli. The Chapter Fathers then swiftly returned to the monastery of St. Savior’s to undertake the final session.
The day came to a close with a moment of recollection at the foot of the majestic crucifix that only recently has been sovereignly elevated over the major altar of St. Savior’s. The message from the cross is one of eternal love, the love that brought tour Savior to hang upon that cross.
