CRONACA DELLA GIORNATA DI SABATO 10 LUGLIO

Oggi il capitolo custodiale ha vissuto momenti di particolare importanza. Al mattino è stata solennemente celebrata l’Eucaristia nella memoria del Beato Emanuele Ruiz e dei suoi compagni martiri, conosciuti come i martiri di Damasco. Questi francescani persero la vita, il 10 luglio 1860, durante la sanguinosa rivolta dei Drusi, testimoniando con il sangue la loro fedeltà a Cristo, dopo aver speso l’intera loro vita in quelle terre, che videro, sin dal tempo di Francesco, lo sforzo missionario dei francescani nel mondo islamico. Fra Artemio Vitores ha presieduto la celebrazione facendo ripercorrere idealmente ai presenti, nella sua omelia, i tanti sentieri bagnati dal sangue dei martiri francescani di Terra Santa. Poi, i Capitolari, in una costruttiva e progettuale atmosfera lavorativa, hanno scelto il nuovo Vicario ed i Discreti di Terra Santa. Prima dell’elezione hanno pregato, invocando lo Spirito sulle note del Veni Creator. Sono risultati eletti a comporre il nuovo Governo della Custodia: come Vicario custodiale, fra Artemio Vítores (riconfermato); come Discreti di Terra Santa: fra Noel Muscat (attuale Maestro dei Novizi a Betlemme e riconfermato), fra Peter Vasko (Responsabile della FFHL), fra Amjad Sabbara (Parroco a Nazareth), fra Seweryn Lubecki (Direttore della Casa Nova di Betlemme), fra Martín Rafael Zavaleta (Direttore del Terra Sancta College di Nicosia in Cipro), fra Stéphane Milovitch (Segretario custodiale). Dopo le elezioni i nuovi Discreti hanno ricevuto le felicitazioni di tutti i capitolari e dell’intera fraternità di S. Salvatore. Auguriamo loro di servire sempre i fratelli, con sapienza e responsabilità. Nel pomeriggio, dopo la prima sessione di lavori pomeridiani, l’Assemblea si è sciolta per consentire la partecipazione alla Messa solenne, celebrata nella chiesa di Notre Dame, in occasione del giubileo d’oro di S. Ecc. il Nunzio Apostolico Mons. Antonio Franco. Al termine della giornata, il canto del Magnificat della preghiera vespertina  ha riunito l’intera comunità, concludendo questa gioiosa giornata di lavori.

Report of the sixth day of the Chapter: Saturday 10th July

Today was a very important day for the Custody chapter. The solemn morning Eucharist was celebrated in memory of Blessed Emanuel Ruiz and his martyred companions, known as the Martyrs of Damascus. These Franciscans lost their lives on the 10th of July 1860, during the bloody Druze revolt, in which they gave witness with their blood of their fidelity to Christ. They had had lived their entire lives in these lands that since the time of Francis, had been the missionary destination of the Franciscans in the Muslim world. Fr. Artemio Vítores presided the Eucharistic celebration and recalled in his homily, the blood shed by many Franciscan martyrs of the Holy Land in their journey in this part of the world.

Then came the moment when the Chapter Fathers, in a constructive and brotherly atmosphere, voted for the new Vicar and for the Discretorium of the Custody of the Holy Land. The elections began with the invocation of the Holy Spirit as the Veni Creator was chanted.

After the elections the Discretorium was congratulated by the Chapter Fathers and by the entire fraternity of St. Saviors.

We wish them many blessings of wisdom and responsibility for their service to their brothers.

After the first afternoon session, the Chapter activities were put on pause in order to allow for the participation in the solemn Mass in the church of Notre Dame for the Golden Jubilee of HE the Apostolic Nuncio Mons. Antonio Franco.

The day was concluded with the singing of the Magnificat at the end of the Vespers, which was a moment of communion after this joyful day of intense activities.
