CRONACA DELLA GIORNATA DI DOMENICA 11 LUGLIO

Questa domenica il Capitolo Custodiale ha registrato una pausa nelle sue attività. Dopo intense giornate di lavoro e di fraterno confronto, i Capitolari si sono concessi il meritato riposo festivo. Gran parte dei frati hanno partecipato alla Messa parrocchiale nella chiesa di San Salvatore alle ore 11.00. L’Eucaristia è stata presieduta dal parroco, fra Ibrahim Faltas, il quale, ringraziando i Capitolari per la partecipazione alla celebrazione parrocchiale, ha spiegato ai fedeli l’importanza del Capitolo nella vita dei religiosi, passando, poi, a commentare la pagina evangelica del Buon Samaritano. Al termine della liturgia, un fraterno incontro con il popolo della parrocchia latina di Gerusalemme, ha testimoniato quanto profondo sia il legame tra la Custodia e la Chiesa locale. Oramai, il Capitolo volge al termine e per i prossimi giorni, in base al calendario dei lavori, è prevista un’intensa attività, poiché si passerà all’approvazione delle varie proposte, frutto del lavoro, sia delle  varie Commissioni tematiche, sia del confronto fraterno in Assemblea. Inoltre, in calendario, è prevista la visita del Nunzio Apostolico Mons. Antonio Franco, di Mons. Twal Patriarca di Gerusalemme ed infine, a conclusione del Capitolo, del Ministro Generale fra José Rodriguez Carballo. Visite dalle quali ci si attende l’esortazione e l’incoraggiamento a vivere la missione in Terra Santa con sempre maggiore slancio e fiducia, essendo sempre presenti nel cuore dei frati della Custodia, le parole pronunciate da papa Benedetto a Nazareth: “Grazie per tutto quello che state facendo, che avete fatto fin’ora e che farete fino al ritorno del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo”. Le note del superbo organo di San Salvatore, generosamente donato dal Commissariato di T.S. di Vienna, accompagnando il canto del Vespro, hanno segnato con la loro armonia  il termine della giornata.

Report of the seventh day of the Chapter: Sunday 11^th of July

This Sunday, the Custody Chapter saw a break from its activities. After days of intense work and fraternal encounters, the Chapter Fathers were granted a well-deserved rest. Most of the brothers attended Mass in the parish church of St. Savior’s at 11.00. The Eucharist was presided by the parish priest, Fr. Ibrahim Faltas, who thanked the fathers for their participation in the parish celebration. He explained to the faithful the importance of the Chapter in the lives of religious men and women and continued his homily preaching from the Gospel passage of the Good Samaritan. After the liturgy, a fraternal meeting with the parishioners of the Latin parish of Jerusalem demonstrated the depth of the relationship between the Custody and the local Church.

The Chapter begins to draw to a close and from Monday, according to the schedule, is expected to intensify, as the work will focus on the approval of the proposals of the thematic committees and the result of the discussions in assembly.

In addition, the Chapter Fathers are waiting for the visits of the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Antonio Franco, Archbishop Fouad Twal Patriarch of Jerusalem and finally, at the conclusion of the Chapter, the General Minister Bro. José Rodríguez Carballo. Visits which are expected to express exhortation and encouragement in living the mission in the Holy Land with increasing enthusiasm and confidence. The Friars of the Custody of the Holy Land hold in their hearts the words of Pope Benedict during his visit to Nazareth: “Thank you for everything that you are doing, that you have been doing and will do until the return of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

The day was drawn to a close by the wholehearted singing of Vespers to the music of the splendid organ in St. Saviors (generously donated by the Commissioner of the Holy Land in Vienna).
