CRONACA DELLA GIORNATA DI LUNEDÌ 5 LUGLIO

La prima giornata dei lavori del Capitolo custodiale ha avuto inizio con la celebrazione della Messa votiva dello Spirito Santo, presieduta dal Presidente del Capitolo, fra Francesco Bravi, nella cornice della chiesa di San Salvatore.

Il brano evangelico proclamato (Gv 20,19-23), ha guidato i capitolari a meditare sulla natura missionaria della Chiesa, la quale, secondo il dettato del Concilio, trae la sua origine dalla missione del Figlio e dalla missione dello Spirito Santo, secondo il disegno di Dio Padre. Da ciò ha origine e significato la Sua fecondità, guidata dallo Spirito Santo per mezzo della Sua potenza di verità e di grazia. Nell’omelia il Presidente, attraverso un percorso guidato, sia dalla Parola, sia da brani tratti dalle Fonti Francescane, ha sapientemente ricordato quanto l’illuminazione dello Spirito ci permetta di fare esperienza viva di Cristo e come Francesco, Sua immagine vivente, sia stato plasmato non dall’opera della natura o dall’abilità di un artefice, ma piuttosto dalla potenza meravigliosa dello Spirito del Dio vivo, come ci racconta S. Bonaventura nella Leggenda Maggiore. .

Al canto del Veni Creator Spiritus, la Parola di Dio, portata processionalmente nella sala San Francesco, in cui ha luogo l’assise capitolare ed ivi intronizzata, vuole essere segno dello spirito con cui si svolgeranno i lavori.

La prima sessione antimeridiana è stata, poi, inaugurata dal saluto inviato dal Ministro Generale, nel quale è stata sottolineata l’importanza e l’impegno del Capitolo e del Governo della Custodia di rendere sempre più evangelica la nostra vita e la nostra testimonianza, restituendo il dono del Vangelo al mondo.

Poi, nel saluto introduttivo e nella relazione iniziale, il Visitatore Generale ha tracciato le linee guida con cui vivere questa esperienza: nell’autenticità evangelica, espressa nella Regola e nella vivificazione dello spirito di orazione e devozione, al quale devono servire tutte le altre cose temporali.

L’Ufficio vespertino, celebrato tra gli antichi scanni del coro della chiesa di San Salvatore, nella penombra della serena atmosfera estiva, che caratterizza le ore serali gerosolimitane, ha segnato il termine di questa intensa giornata di lavori.

Report of the second day of the Chapter: Monday 5th of July

The first day of activity for the Custody Chapter began with the celebration of the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit presided by the Chapter President, Fra Francesco Bravi, in the Church of St Saviors.

The Chapter Fathers were guided in a meditation of the Gospel reading (Jn 20,19-23) that focused on the  missionary nature of the Church, that, “from the mission of the Son and the mission of the Holy Spirit that she draws her origin, in accordance with the decree of God the Father”. (Ad Gentes 7). This is the source of the origin and meaning of the fertility of the Church, that is guided by the power of truth and grace of the Holy Spirit. In his homily, the President quoted from both the Word and from the Franciscan Sources. He wisely noted that it is the illumination of the Spirit that allows us to have the living experience of Christ and how Francis, His living image, was moulded not by the works of nature nor by the ability of a craftsman but rather by the awesome power of the Spirit of the living God (taken from the “Legenda Maior” of St. Bonaventure).

 The Word of God was brought in procession into the hall of St. Francis, accompanied by the chanting of Veni Creator Spiritus. Here, the Chapter will be lived and here, the Word of God now exposed in the center, is a sign of the spirit that will guide the Chapter proceedings.

The first morning session was inaugurated with the reading of the message sent by the General Minister. In it he emphasized the importance and the commitment of the Chapter and of the governing body of the Custody, to making our life and witness ever-more Gospel centered, restoring the gift of the Gospel to the world.

The Visitator General then gave the opening welcome and in the first session he defined the guidelines for how this experience will be lived: in the authentic Gospel spirit, expressed in the Rule and in the spirit of prayer and devotion, which all other worldly things must serve.

In the shadows of a quiet summer evening, characteristic of Jerusalem, the Office of Vespers was celebrated among the ancient choir stalls in the Church of St. Saviors that marked the end of this intense day of work.
